How to use Ganesha?

Ganesha combines the three best teaching tools to facilitate your learning: Magic Felt, Spaced Repetition and the “Pomodoro” technique. These tools are based on the seven neuroeducational principles that we have seen previously.

1. The Magic Pen masks the highlighted area of your lesson. It reappears when you touch the screen. Thus, you test yourself objectively, without
have the illusion that you know your course after a simple reading. The Magic Pen allows you to reactivate your neurons and gives you effective feedback on your responses, it’s feedback.

2. Spaced repetition is possible thanks to your “Recap’ of the day” synthesis, which chronologically assembles the elements learned on D+0, D+1, D+6, D+27, D+180, D+365, D +3650. This is the best way to maintain the roads of your gigantic knowledge shed and to reduce foggy areas.

Indeed, this updating system associates repetition of information and spacing of reactivations.

3. The “Pomodoro” technique consists of setting a learning time, followed by a short break where it is advisable to reward yourself. This technique, developed by Francesco Cirillo in the early 1980s, helps avoid procrastination and improves the learner’s efficiency and concentration. Just set your timer for 20 or 25 minutes, clear all distractions around you, and focus.

Once this time has elapsed, give yourself a small reward at the end: a cup of coffee, a square of chocolate, a very juicy fruit (good sugar for your brain, which loves it during this revision period), or a few minutes of stretches of web surfing, chatting…

Aim to divert attention from your brain for a short, well-defined period. But beware of procrastination. Respect the 5 or 10 minutes that you give yourself.

That’s it that’s all ! Finally, it’s like doing a mental gymnastics session : an intense effort for 20-25 minutes, followed by a moment of relaxation. Try! The effort is less difficult when there is a reward at stake. The brain knows this and it gains in efficiency.

Friends parents, do not hesitate: reward good habits!

Use the 3 tools of Ganesha while being aware of how your brain works. You will only be more efficient. Your brain is evolving; it is a muscle made up of electrical networks. Make sure you remember essential information, explain things in your own words, get enough sleep, and avoid distractions while learning.

Revise with Ganesha instructions for use

The brain likes rituals. So invent your ritual to get to work, define an hour in the day devoted to your revisions. In the Ganesha app, the creation of the Recap’ of the day is programmed by default at 6 p.m., because the majority of the courses are then finished. You can of course adapt this schedule according to your needs, your imperatives. But force yourself to respect it daily.

What to do when it’s time to revise?

  1. Log in to the app.
  2. Tap on the “Today’s Review”, which tells you what needs to be refreshed in your knowledge shed.
  3. Eliminate all sources of distraction: settle in the quietest place possible, put your phone in “airplane” mode.
  4. Set a working time to “Pomodoro”. This time should adjust to your ability to concentrate – usually between 15 and 50 minutes. Ideally allow 20 to 25 minutes. All you have to do is get started! If necessary, repeat several “Pomodoro”/reward break/“Pomodoro” cycles to complete your task or your revisions for the day.
  5. Try to remember the information you masked with the Magic Pen in your lesson. To instantly check your answer, tap the area to reveal the hidden part. Remember: to learn you don’t need to answer correctly; you juste need to try.
  6. If, despite your efforts, you cannot remember the hidden concepts, take your note again, reread it, making sure you understand it, try to recite it or re-explain it in your own words. If you succeed, you have recorded the information correctly.
  7. Once you know how to re-explain the entire note, tick the “level completed” box and move on to the next note.

Addendum.

When the “Pomodoro” sounds, take a short break of 5-10 minutes and give yourself a small reward. Then resume your revisions with the “Pomodoro”. Continue the cycle in this way until you complete the Review of the day.

To create a new habit, you need motivation; but with practice, the habit sets in, and it is no longer so difficult to get started. You will no longer need to motivate yourself so much, only to be disciplined.

For each learning, the technique is same. It may be a little long at first but you will gradually gain in efficiency.

Tip: if in the “Recap’ of the day” you come across a note that is no longer important to you and that you no longer wish to review, you can archive it. It will then no longer appear in the following daily reviews.

Add a note: instructions for use

  1. Take a picture of your revision sheet, your course, your score, etc. in the Ganesha app.
  2. Crop or rotate it as needed.
  3. Give it a title and put it in a folder (create one if needed).
  4. Highlight important information: you can change the color depending on the level of importance. This will help you to target the priority of the information, to remember it while reading the “Recap’ of the day” and to choose who to reveal first by the Magic Pen.
  5. Your turn !
